Big Chili Cook-Off!

Honoring our Firefighters

Saturday September 7th  – Sunday September 8th, 10 am – 5 pm @ Buchanan Park
Evergreen’s Big Chili Cook-Off Music & Arts Festival is a celebration of fun, food, live entertainment, kids’ activities, vendors and more!  Over 5,000 people attend this event each year to sample and vote on the best chili recipes, all in support of our local firefighters.
The Cause

The Big Chili Cook-Off honors and recognizes those who have given so much to keep us safe in our mountain communities. Without doubt, the local firefighters are among the bravest and deserve our thanks and recognition.

In honor, all event proceeds benefit the local mountain fire departments from Elk Creek, Evergreen, Indian Hills, Inter Canyon, North Fork & Platte Canyon.

The Chili

Chili Cook booths will prepare a one ounce cup per chili for event attendee and judge sampling.  Judging will be done by a panel of volunteer judges.  Chili Cooks will be asked to submit a numbered sample of chili for blind judging.  The judges will divide up the entries and then choose entries to move in to the final judging round.  Judges will then select the winners of the Red, Green and Firehouse categories.  The category of People’s Choice Chili will be selected by event attendees via ballot.

In addition to the chili tasting festivities, there is an array of unique vendor booths to explore, as well as live music & entertainment for the kids!  You won’t want to miss out on this fun experience.

Colorado Bentley Tour

We are thrilled to be hosting drivers of the 2019 Colorado Bentley tour at the Inn in just a few days!

This group of 15 vintage cars includes W.O. Bentley’s, Rolls-Royce’s and Triumphs. The some 30 participants are coming from all over the US and England to Colorado to celebrate 100 years of Bentley. The drivers will start on the 10th of August in Conifer, then drive to Del Norte, stay three nights in Telluride, one night in Redstone and three nights in Aspen, before returning to Conifer.

A little history about Bentley:

Bentley Motors was founded by W.O. Bentley and his brother in 1919. A 3-litre model won the 24 hours race at Le Mans in 1924, subsequent models won again in 1927, 1928, 1929 & 1930. In 1931 the company was taken over by Rolls Royce. A total of 3061 W.O. Bentley’s were produced in Cricklewood in England. More than 50% of the cars survived. The cars are still very popular today as they still go up to 100 mph, therefore can easily keep up with modern highway speeds.

10th Annual Dam Ducky Derby

This Saturday, August 3rd, 2019
11am - 3 pm!

The Dam Ducky Derby, now in its tenth year, annually draws 3,500 visitors to downtown Evergreen with food and festivities throughout downtown, trolley horse rides on Main Street and the Duck Drop at Evergreen Dam.

Anyone may participate by buying one or more uniquely numbered ducks. The winning ducks numbers are documented as they cross the finish line and cash prizes and sponsor gifts are awarded to the owners of the speediest ducks.

In addition to the duck race, there will be plenty of food, music, carnival games, bouncy house, face painter & more! Hope to see you all there!

How does it work? A fire truck drops numbered ducks from above the dam to the creek below. As the rubber ducks race down Bear Creek, spectators follow the flow of thousands of ducks as they approach the finish line at Highland Haven Creekside Inn. Children help collect the ducks in their baskets so they can compete again next year.

Evergreen Jazz Festival

The seeds of the Evergreen Jazz Festival were sown in 1999 at a birthday party for long-time Evergreen resident Sterling Nelson. Sterling had served as president of the Denver Jazz Club as far back as 1960, and his birthday party included unrehearsed performances by eight top Colorado jazz musicians.

Happily, Evergreen was no stranger to jazz. In the late ’60s and early ’70s, Evergreen hosted jazz greats like Count Basie and Duke Ellington at a club called The Red Ram. Now known as Little Bear, this infamous night club has served as one of our Festival venues. Another of our venues, the Elks Lodge, hosted the Evergreen Ragtime Bash throughout the ’90s, thanks to the efforts of local jazz pianist George Keeler.

Building on this jazz heritage, Sterling and a small group of volunteers staged the first Evergreen Jazz Festival in 2001. Nine world-class bands, including the Golden Gate Rhythm Machine and James Dapogny’s Chicago Jazz Band performed for enthusiastic audiences.

Each year has seen the Evergreen Jazz Festival attract more jazz fans as word spreads about this weekend of great music, and the Festival continues to garner high praise not only from audiences, but from musicians and jazz critics as well. Join us for the 2019 Evergreen Jazz Festival taking place throughout five different venues on Friday, July 26th 12pm-11pm, Saturday July 27th 10am-10pm, and Sunday July 28th 11am-6pm.

The Muddy Buck Cafe

“Nothing brings friends and families together like warm drinks and freshly made food”

Nothing brings friends and families together like warm drinks and freshly made food – We feel fortunate to be a part of that kindred connection.

Proudly locally owned and operated, The Muddy Buck Cafe is Evergreen’s only fresh-roasting coffee house. Decadent brunch foods and pastries paired with exceptional coffee make The Muddy Buck what is is today.

The Muddy Buck is located in the historic Evergreen Hotel building, founded in 1896. The building has undergone many transformations and occupants over time, including the original  “Ice House” which provided refrigeration for the Evergreen community (they still use the original ice storage unit as a cooler today). Several structure fires over the years have altered the interior, and you can still see the charring on the original wood beams and rock walls which give the building it’s unique character.

From the Big Buck Breakfast Burrito to the Buck Eyed Egg, their breakfast menu is sure to impress! For lunch, try one of their six phenominal sandwiches served with Colorado Crafted chips, or how about a chicken flatbread with grilled basil chicken, sun-dried tomato basil pesto, fresh arugula, balsamic drizzle and roasted garlic cloves? Yum!

Coffee, Cocoa, and Cocktails sums up their exceptionally large drink menu ranging from numerous roasts of coffee and espresso, to house made chai tea, Italian sodas and more! Enjoy a mimosa or bloody mary with brunch on their patio right in the heart of downtown.

Great location, exceptional coffee and delicious food ~ Whether you’re a local or just visiting, The Muddy Buck Cafe is a must-go!
