Chalk Paint

Hello fellow home decorators, artists, and do-it-yourselfers,

On Saturday, April 2nd, 2016 the Bears Inn Bed & Breakfast will be hosting its first DIY Chalk Painting & More Workshop. Come be inspired by a practical approach to painting and gain the confidence to achieve a range of professional quality finishes without the fuss.

Chalk Paint® is the brand name for Annie Sloan’s unique water-based decorative paint. It is a non-toxic paint that is lead-free, EG-free, odor-free and has very low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Developed specifically for furniture, it can be applied to most surfaces and very rarely requires any priming or sanding before painting. You can use it on walls, floors, wood, concrete, metal, matt plastic, earthenware, brick, stone and more – inside or outside. You can even use it to paint upholstery and dye fabric.

There are only a handful of chalk paint retailers in the Denver area, and we are lucky enough to have one right here in our neighborhood called Sisters. They are located in downtown Evergreen on Main Street, only three and a half miles from the Inn. During the workshop we have allotted time for anyone interested in purchasing products from them to use on your project and/or at home.

The workshop will begin at 10am and continue through the afternoon until around 4pm, depending on the size of the object you bring in for its facelift. For the first two hours, we will explain the basic techniques of Chalk Paint and Wax Finishes. Each guest will paint four different sample projects with four different finishes, and the tools and supplies to do so will be provided. We’ll then break for a tasty lunch, which is included, and guests will have time to run down to Sisters if they would like to purchase additional paints, brushes or tools. After lunch guests will begin painting their own projects with the help and guidance of our team. Basic brushes and a cream chalk paint will be provided. Any other colors or brushes will need to be purchased separately. While we wait for the paint to dry, guests can tour the newly renovated Suite at the Inn, the Inn Cabin & Vicki’s home to see finished chalk paint projects and get inspiration.

What you will need to bring: Comfortable clothes to paint in, one small object to revamp with chalk paint (i.e. lamp, picture frame, small shelf, etc.), any adult beverages if you’d like to start Happy Hour early.

The $125 cost includes: Instruction on chalk painting, four sample pieces to paint as you learn the techniques, basic brushes, a tasty lunch and refreshments, cream colored chalk paint and clear wax to use on your own small project

We are looking forward to the Workshop and hope you can join us for a lovely afternoon of painting and revamping with good company. Limited spaces are available and a $50 deposit will be required to reserve your spot. In case of an overflow, we will schedule a second workshop. Look forward to hearing from you!
